Coaching

Coaches are an integral part of our association and the team. Without coaches, our teams would not have any structure or organization. Being a coach doesn't mean you need to have skates on OR have any previous hockey experience; it means that you'll be dedicated to the players, advance their skills, help them be great people, and have fun throughout the season.

Becoming a coach involves the following steps:

  1. Register with USA Hockey - you need a new USA Hockey Player/Coach number each season, even if your certification does not expire this year
  2. Apply with Sparta Youth Hockey
  3. Complete Safe Sport training - refreshers required every year (can find link in USAH Profile)
  4. Get a background check - needed every 2 years (can find link in USAH Profile)
  5. Complete Online Age-Specific Module(s) - can find link in USAH profile
  6. Attend a coaching seminar
  7. Review any association and USA Hockey policies
  8. Start coaching!

Use the above links to get started. The first step is registering with USA Hockey as a coach. Once you've registered, then apply and the board will be made aware of your intent then your application will be reviewed. Everything else can then take place after you've been approved.  If you're a 6U or 8U coach, continue with the required pieces; you do not have to wait to hear from the board.

  1. Once you have finished all the required material, please contact the coaching coordinator and registrar and provide them with the following information:

  1. Full name
  2. Date of birth
  3. Current year USA Hockey membership number - example 012345678ABCDE

Coaching is strictly voluntary and at will. We do offer coaching reimbursement for those who qualify.
